Free Electricity Through Rooftop Solar

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29th February, 2024 to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity.

Subsidy Structure

Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for residential sector

1 Residential Sector (first 2 kWp of RTS capacity or part thereof) ₹30,000/kWp
2 Residential Sector (with additional RTS capacity of 1 kWp or part thereof) ₹18,000/kWp
3 Residential Sector (additional RTS capacity beyond 3 kWp) No additional CFA
4 Group Housing Societies/ Residential Welfare Associations (GHS/RWA) etc, for common facilities including EV charging up to 500 kWp (@3 kWp per house) ₹18,000/kWp

Subsidy Illustrations

1.5 kW System

Subsidy: ₹30,000 × 1.5 = ₹45,000

2.5 kW System

Subsidy: ₹30,000 × 2 + ₹18,000 × 0.5 = ₹69,000

6 kW System

Subsidy: ₹30,000 × 2 + ₹18,000 × 1 = ₹78,000

RWA - 100 kW with 20 households

Subsidy: ₹18,000 × 60 kW = ₹10,80,000

(Lower of (20×3 kW), 100 kW)

Application Process

Steps to apply for rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Registration

Enter mobile number and verify with OTP. After successful verification, enter your name, select your state, district and fill other details. Enter your email and verify with OTP, then click 'save' your profile.

Vendor Selection

On vendor select popup click on 'Yes', if you want your vendor to fill the application for you or else 'No'.

Application Submission

Click on 'Apply for Solar Rooftop' and select state, district, discom, consumer no. and click on 'fetch details' for auto pre-filling of required information, then click on next button to fill and submit the application.

Feasibility & Vendor Selection

Once you get the feasibility approval, select the vendor and submit your bank details to receive Subsidy.

Installation

Once installation of plant is completed, vendor submits the installation details to you (i.e. consumer) for verification and further, submits to DISCOM.

Inspection & Subsidy

DISCOM does the Inspection and submits inspection details to consumer. After that, consumer redeems the subsidy and submits to NPIA.
